One of the amazing things ...

One of the amazing things about Second Life is the ability to go and experience things that you might not otherwise be able to do in real life. Today I was able to travel to Soho while taking my morning coffee break! Virtual Soho, Manhattan, NYC, like its real life counterpart, is full of sky scrapers, shops, intimate streets, and of course, most noteworthy, tons of art galleries.

Exploring the narrow streets, you'll find small galleries filled with fine art that you can purchase. You'll be impressed with the works of artists like Araminta Kroitschov, LemelonRouge Onyett, and SandraLee Palianta. They are well known in Second Life art circles, and all have galleries in Soho. These are not the huge impersonal galleries that host the works of a dozen or more artists; these are smaller and host one artist at a time, with many being owned by the artists themselves. You might even be lucky enough to catch the artist hanging new work in his or her gallery, and gain additional insight into his or her work.

The city towers over and around you without feeling claustrophobic. I kept expecting to get honked at for jaywalking as I comfortably meandered the neighborhood. If you keep looking you will find many great city-escape views, and I even discovered a little rooftop oasis! Don't be afraid to walk down those ally ways or side streets. You never know what lies ahead and you just may stumble upon that great brownstone that you've always dreamed of renting, or that perfect shop window for a new shop.

In conclusion, Soho is a mixed commercial, residential, and art district, so you can live where you work or work where you live, and that is considered a rare thing to find in Second Life. It is also a perfect place to chill out with your friends on the incredible and absolutely beautiful sky scrapers and cultural buildings.

As a native New Yorker I've been to Manhattan, and to SoHo.. and though the virtual SoHo sim is not an exact replica of SoHo, it does capture the ambiance of the area nicely. Neighborhood shops are small storefronts with trendy lofts and apartments overhead. Exploring the narrow streets, you'll find ...
